It is understandable to feel overwhelmed, intimidated, and vulnerable when starting counseling. I believe in the importance of a strong therapeutic relationship that is built at your own pace.
My main approach to counseling is person-centered with a trauma-informed lens. I also implement cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and emotion-focused into my practice and am certified in trauma-focused CBT for children/adolescents. I believe that there can be several ways to cope with anxiety, depression, and self-esteem issues by implementing new perspectives and healthier ways of thinking. I also use an emotion-focused approach in order to help clients process and validate their emotions while recognizing the purpose that even unpleasant or difficult emotions serve. Although I have had training and experience in these approaches, I believe it is more important to treat each client as a unique individual and meet them where they are at. There is no one type of therapy/modality that works for every person. I can offer guidance, psychoeducation, and support, but I strongly believe that you are the expert of yourself. My goal is to empower you through helping you identify your strengths and values that guide life decisions.
I have a Bachelor's in Anthropology/Sociology from College of Idaho and a Master's in Clinical Counseling from Northwest Nazarene University. Please email me or call me to schedule a free consultation to see if I might be a good fit for your mental health needs.
